The 24-year-old was a biomedical engineering student in Hull when she attended the WiME event.

Having already been on the lookout for graduate jobs, Ebonnie decided to attend WiME to gain a wider awareness of job prospects within the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) sector.

Visiting numerous exhibitors, it was Siemens Mobility which took her interest.

Ebonnie said: “I came to university in Hull from London and although I was pretty settled in the north, the WiME event confirmed that there were so many opportunities for me in the region.

“I was already applying for graduate jobs, but WiME gave me the confidence to apply for more, in various industries, as I was opened up to the transferrable skills I had.

“I knew of Siemens, but mainly their energy work, so I applied to them and now graduate project manager at Siemens Mobility having graduated in summer 2025.”

Ebonnie was due to be based at Siemens’ Goole site, but personal circumstances meant she had to move back home to London.

“Siemens were amazingly understanding of my circumstances and allowed me to work in their London offices, despite originally planned to be based in Goole,” she added.

“It shows the flexibility and options available to people from outside the area too.

“I’d highly recommend anyone considering a career in STEM to attend WiME, learn about what’s available and what skills you already have to help you with applying for jobs.”

WiME is part of Green Port Hull and celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026. It is hosting a careers fair in Hull’s Guildhall to encourage more girls and young women to explore opportunities in the sector.

Specifically, the WiME event is aimed at:

  • Women who are currently employed in other sectors who wish to make a career change
  • Those returning to work after a career break
  • Girls attending school or college with their parents/carers
  • Female students in Higher Education
  • Careers advisors for schoolchildren and adults

The careers fair will take place from 3:30-6pm on Tuesday 6 October. You can find out more information and book your place here.
