The Green Port Growth Business Support team offers a programme of workshops and events for local businesses.

The aim of the business support strand is to assist businesses within Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire in their development to access opportunities within the renewables sector.

To support this activity, the team has developed a series of workshops and events which are free to all enrolled businesses. On the events page, you will see existing workshops which are available for enrolments.

Understanding How Buyers for Developers and Tier one Contractors Select Suppliers

Becoming a supplier to the renewables sector means operating in an often Global Sourcing market. This event provides a better understanding of Procurement procedures, principles and tendering requirements, such as PQQ’s, ITT’s, RFI’s and “e” tenders as well as centralised online supplier registration and pre-qualification systems such as Achilles.

An Introduction to the Wind, Tidal and Wave Sectors in the UK and Beyond

The workshop will introduce the wind, wave and tidal industry in the UK and explore emerging markets beyond the UK. It will explore the current market, future market forecasts and the challenges which will need to be overcome in order to achieve 2020 targets. The Humber region is likely to play a key role in achieving these targets and the workshop will explore the opportunities for local suppliers in each industries supply chain. A guest speaker from a relevant renewables industry participant will provide an insight into the benefits and challenges of doing business in the sector and will share lessons learned.

Ways to Reduce Cost, Increase Efficiency and Provide Bottom Line Improvement

 

New opportunities for businesses to supply into the renewables sector will be competitive between existing, as well as prospective new suppliers, and to win business they will need to look closely at reducing costs. This workshop will be an introduction to the ‘Lean’ ethos and the many varied ways it can support you, whether you are a producer or a service provider, and by using systems and methodologies such as 5S, JIT, TPM for continuous improvement.

Successful Marketing in Renewable Energy - How to Present Your Company and Win Business

 

The workshop will introduce how to market your business within the renewable energy space. Firstly, it will explore inward marketing messages direct from industry: what do they need? What are they looking for? When do they need it? Secondly, it will explore practical ways for businesses to implement this knowledge into their marketing plans through an interactive session, including sharing success stories. A guest speaker from a relevant renewables industry company will provide an insight into the benefits and challenges of successful marketing from their point of view.

From Concept to Commercialisation: The Product or Service Development Journey

To provide a basic understanding of the key stages in bringing a new idea to life commercially, including issues surrounding protection of the idea, the types of funding appropriate and available at each stage of development, the types of organisations providing such funding and what to look out for in such organisations, and some tips for success. The attendees should leave the workshop with a firmer grasp of the c2c journey and how to reduce risk when embarking on it

Offshore Wind: Contract risk assessment and management

This workshop aims to raise awareness of potential issues SME's might face when working with OEM's, developers and key tiers in the Offshore Wind sector. The workshop will utilise existing case studies as well as potential scenarios and contracts that companies might encounter when working in this sector. Knowledge gained from this workshop will also certainly be applicable across the wider Marine, Industrial and Offshore Energy sectors.

Do you understand the Offshore Wind Supply chain, where you fit within this supply chain and who your competitors are?

This one day interactive event will commence with an updated market review of the UK and European Offshore wind industry and its supply chain, clarity on where you fit into the chain, its prevalent contracting strategies and procurement details and the benefits of local supply and UK content.

Deep dive competitor analysis sessions will then focus on supporting you to develop a specific SWOT analysis for the offshore wind industry by understanding your competitors and your position in the market.  Support will also be given in registering on supplier portals.

The day will be completed with a one to one session to answer any specific questions and help to produce a personal action plan identifying initial next steps depending on your present capability and experience.

Managing your Social Media Business Presence across Multiple Platforms

After running a successful social media workshop for beginners, we are following this up with an intermediate-level workshop which aims to build on your current social media presence. Now you’ve got to grips with the basics of forming a great Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn presence, we’ll show you how to build a great, organic online presence across multiple platforms by setting up a weekly publishing structure via scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer.

Understanding Offshore Wind - Operations and Maintenance

This workshop covers all aspects of the Operations & Maintenance of an Offshore Wind Farm ranging from onshore portside activities to planning the movement of people and vessels to turbine, foundation and cable array maintenance. The UK market for offshore wind O&M services is expected to grow to £1.2 billion/year by 2020 and continue on as the offshore sector expands. O&M expenditures make up some 25% of the total kWh costs over the entire life of a turbine.
