GREEN SHOOTS OF OPPORTUNITY FUND
The Renewables sector is bringing significant employment and investment to the Humber area, and the Board of the Green Port Growth Programme is keen to help ensure that everyone has an opportunity to benefit from this, especially those individuals or communities who are currently distanced or disengaged from access to employment, education or training.
To help achieve the Green Port Board’s ambition, a ‘Green Shoots of Opportunity’ fund has been developed, and applications are being invited to support projects which will identify and then address any gaps in provision linked to the increased opportunities provided by energy investment around the Humber.
Ideas and applications are sought from any formally constituted organisation, including smaller, non-mainstream and community based initiatives, especially in the less economically successful areas of Hull and East Riding. All bidders will need to provide evidence about who or what is currently missing out from developments in the renewables sector. They will also need to offer innovative solutions around how target groups can be engaged and supported towards job, training and education outputs rather than just solely promoting their own current or day to day activity.
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES WILL THE FUND CONSIDER?
There are no limitations on the types of activities that may be suggested, but it is expected that they will be based around supporting those who have barriers to and are a distance from the labour market, and may be from disadvantaged groups and areas or be longer term unemployed.
HOW MUCH CAN YOU APPLY FOR?
Green Shoots of Opportunity has a minimum grant level of £5,000. The fund, including all monitoring and evaluation will be overseen by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, operating as Accountable Body for the Regional Growth Fund Round 2 funded Green Port Growth Programme.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Groups or organisations who are formally constituted may apply. They must have the capacity and ability to manage their project including tasks around staffing, finance, collection of outputs and outcomes and participation in evaluation and monitoring. Applicants must be able to explain how the programme or project for which they are requesting grant funding clearly relates to the Green Port Growth Programme Board’s ambitions.
WHAT GREEN SHOOTS OF OPPORTUNITY CANNOT FUND?
The fund cannot support funding request solely from individuals. Projects cannot be wholly based on general community activities, and must have an element of relevant employment, education or training linked to opportunities within the Humber. Costs are expected to be predominately revenue based.
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
Applicants will complete a brief initial Expression of Interest, either on-line in word format or by hard copy. The intention of this simplification is to capture the general idea and format of the project. A formal grant funding application will then follow, which includes a more in-depth requirement around details of the organisation, likely methodology for the project, financial forecasting etc.
